Pregnant or just given birth ? Did you know what a great support system you have in your community?
Osteopathy for Pregnancy
Pregnancy can be a worrying or daunting time for women, especially if it is with your first child and particularly, if like one of my recent mother’s to be, it happened all a bit fast! Likewise if it has taken a long time to get pregnant, each trimester, especially the first, can seem like a hurdle to get over. Here at the Monkton Farleigh Osteopathic Practice both Francesca and Katie are mother’s themselves and understand the emotional components of pregnancy and are well placed with their Osteopathic training to help make each stage of pregnancy, with their different demands on the body, run smoothly. Helping to treat back aches, sciatica, headaches, pubic symphysis/pelvic issues or simply making sure there is some give in the system for movement of the baby in the lead up to delivery. Katie in addition to this has undertaken post graduate training in Osteopathy for pregnant mum’s. We want this to be a special time for you and for you to appreciate that this a miraculous, but normal process for the body. The more you support your bodily responses to the hormonal and growing changes the easier and more enjoyable your pregnancy will be.
Pregnancy Yoga
Georgie at www.brightblueyoga.co.uk in Bath runs great pre natal yoga classes that help support our treatments and active birthing. Keeping mobile throughout pregnancy and especially in labour is so important and can help to encourage a baby to turn who is not in the optimal foetal position during labour and before the waters have broken. Breath work is also key to keeping the stress levels down and in turn controlling pain levels.
Birth Reflection and Trauma Resolution
However hard you prepare, the birth sometimes holds surprises for you and can at times be traumatic. We have recently had a visit from Nora Seager-Wilkendorf a midwife at the RUH who has a special interest in birth reflection sessions and birth trauma resolution. As osteopaths, we often feel un-resolved stress in the body which can be held from traumatic events in the past and can prevent you from fully moving on from a painful episode or injury. It is therefore so important to deal with these traumas as soon as possible, so we highly recommend Nora at www.birththoughts.co.uk if you are feeling unsettled several weeks, months or even years after your birth.
Postpartum Preparation workshops
Mary at www.lightofadoula.com offers a Postpartum Preparation Workshop. In this workshop you’ll gain knowledge and tools to confidently navigate the postpartum period. You’ll learn about the physical and emotional changes after birth, effective self care, nutritious recovery foods and healthy communication with your partner.
Osteopathy for Babies
It is always exciting and a priviledge to meet the baby that we have been supporting throughout mum’s pregnancy and to check you out physically post partum. Also to support you as your body readapts and has to cope with the breast feeding, bending over changing nappies and heavy lifting of car seats etc all at a time where the ligaments are still lax from the pregnancy.
We are also here to help with your new born baby and check them out post delivery especially if they have had an assisted delivery with forceps or ventouse. Francesca has untaken post graduate training in the Osteopathic treatment of babies and really enjoys helping unsettled babies and those with feeding difficulties using gentle cranial osteopathy and soft tissue techniques. This allows the parents to enjoy this special time as a family.
Hopefully this reassures you that together we are there for you, with the hope that this is the miraculous event that it should be. |
