Is Osteopathy Safe for Babies?
In short – yes! The techniques used by an osteopath on your baby are very gentle and therefore safe. It is particularly welcomed as it is non invasive and does not involve the use of medication – it instead, like all osteopathy, relies on the inherent self healing mechanisms of the body as long as it is guided in the right direction by your Osteopath.
Our osteopath, Sian has a specialist postgraduate qualification in the osteopathic treatment of babies and children. This means that not only can she safely handle and treat your baby, she also knows how to thoroughly examine a baby to check its general health before starting any osteopathic work. You will see Sian carry out a “New Baby Check” on any patient that comes to the clinic under a year old. This is very similar to the examinations carried out by a doctor, nurse or midwife within a medical setting and will allow Sian to get to know your baby better.
Examination is essential as it allows an osteopath to advise the best course of management, whether that be treatment, exercises for parent and baby, referral or a combination of the three.
